St. Louis In Home Family Photos

A family sits on the top of their couch smiling at each other for their St. Louis In home family photos

Some of my favorite family sessions are the ones where nothing particularly extraordinary happens. No big outings, no elaborate activities, no perfectly planned moments. Just a family being themselves, spending time together in the place where so much of their life unfolds: home.

These St. Louis in home family photos were especially meaningful because these clients are actually good friends of mine and I’ve photographed them multiple times over the years! When we first were discussing their session, they wanted an outdoor session, but after filling out their questionnaire that I send out to all my clients prior to a session, they realized that they feel happiest as a family at home playing with their magnatiles and train set and drinking coffee. So we pivoted to an in home session and I’m so glad we did!

The Beauty of Your Family’s Everyday Life

When families invite me into their homes, I love getting a glimpse into the little routines that make their life uniquely theirs. The familiar rooms, the favorite toys, the way the kids move through the house, and all the little interactions that happen without anyone thinking twice about them.

Because they’re what you do every day, they may not feel worth capturing, but I promise you, they are! And honestly, I believe you may even treasure these memories more than you might an outdoor session because they are authentically YOU.

During this session, we did just that, we focused on capturing this family as they are right now. We took it slow and let the kids play with their toys, took breaks when we needed to, ate ice cream and just lived life with a camera in tow! Because the goal isn’t to create a picture of what family life is supposed to look like. It’s to preserve what it actually feels like to be your family.

Sometimes the Best Photos Happen During the Break

Here’s a little secret about this session: some of my absolute favorite images came when I wasn’t directing them to do anything, or we weren’t doing a specific activity!

After getting some great pictures in the living room, I could tell the kids needed to regroup so we took a break, and the kids sat down to eat some snacks on the kitchen counter. It was an ordinary moment, the kind that happens countless times throughout the week. No one was trying to create a special memory or make a picture-worthy moment happen, but I pulled out my camera anyway and I’m so glad I did!

I think that’s one of the things I love most about in-home family photography. When we slow down and leave room for life to happen naturally, we make space for the moments we might otherwise miss.

St. Louis In Home Family Photos- why I love In Home Photography

Your home doesn’t have to be spotless, and your kids don’t have to be perfectly cooperative. You don’t need an elaborate activity planned or a house that looks like it belongs in a magazine.

Your home is already full of meaningful things: the spaces where your kids play, the couch where you cuddle together, the kitchen where you share snacks, and the little corners that hold so much of your family’s story.

An in-home family session in St. Louis gives us the opportunity to document those details alongside the bigger moments. It’s a relaxed way to capture your family in a familiar environment, without needing to pack everyone up and head somewhere else.

And because we’re photographing your family in a place where you already feel comfortable, there’s room for the unexpected. We can follow the kids’ lead, take breaks when we need to, and let the session unfold at its own pace.

The Little Moments Become the Big Memories

You don’t have to wait for your life to be all together or your house to be perfectly clean to get family pictures! You can capture the beauty of the ordinary now without having to wait!

If you’ve been thinking about booking St. Louis in home family photos, consider this your reminder that your life doesn’t have to look extraordinary to be worth documenting. Sometimes the most beautiful photographs come from the simplest moments, right in the middle of your everyday life.
