I had the best time shooting Makenzi and Andrew’s proposal at the Missouri Botanical Garden recently! It was a slightly chilly day but the sun came out and we were able to get some gorgeous glow. Let me tell you what it’s like shooting a proposal from the perspective of a photographer though. I arrived to the botanical garden and sped walked my way back to the spot Andrew had picked for the proposal (the bench where he asked Makenzi to be his girlfriend, aww), stressing the whole time that I wouldn’t be able to find it even though I knew exactly where it was! Once I got there, I found some bushes to hide behind and crouched there for 10-15 minutes waiting for them to get there. Once they got there, I had to make sure I wasn’t coming out of the bushes too early to ruin the surprise for Makenzi, so I did a sort of weird crab walk going out and back behind the bushes until Andrew got down on one knee. Eventually, the moment came and made all of this worth it! And you know what? I will do this time and time again for my couples.
Makenzi and Andrew are the best! I’ve worked with these two in the past for a regular sweetheart session and I did headshots for Andrew and his mom for their small business so when Andrew reached out to me about shooting their proposal, I was overjoyed! Not only do I love it when couples come back to me for pictures, but these two especially are so kind and sweet and I always have a great time with them! After we captured the proposal, we walked around the garden, specifically by the Japanese Garden (one of my favorite spots at the Missouri botanical garden) and got some super cute engagement pictures! At the end, Makenzi and Andrew’s families were waiting for them and we got a few group pictures for them. Overall I’d say that was a Saturday well spent!
